Road trip through Mongolia

Silkroad Rally: The last big stage - Through Mongolia

After crossing Siberia and the Altai Mountains, we reach the last major challenge of the Silkroad Rally: Mongolia. Here, in one of the last great wilderness areas on earth, pure freedom awaits us. Unpaved tracks, endless steppes, snow-capped mountains and nomads who still live in yurts today - Mongolia is the ultimate adventure and the perfect finale to this epic journey.

The Mongolian steppe: endless expanse

Mongolia is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world. There are hardly any roads here, just tracks that seem to disappear into nothingness. Anyone driving here needs good navigation, stamina and a taste for the unexpected.

What makes the Mongolian steppe so unique?

  • Absolute freedom - No fences, no road signs, just endless landscape

  • Challenging off-road routes - Unpaved paths, river crossings and sandy passages

  • Nomadic culture - Warm encounters with Mongolian families

  • The night under a million stars - Camping in complete solitude, without light pollution

The Gobi Desert: sand, rocks & extreme situations

A special highlight is the crossing of the Gobi Desertone of the driest and most impressive deserts in the world. Huge sand dunes, rugged rock formations and hidden oases make this stage one of the most exciting sections of the entire rally.

Places of interest in the Gobi:

  • Khongoryn Els - the "Singing Dunes", up to 300 meters high

  • Bayanzag (Flaming Cliffs) - famous red rocks, site of dinosaur fossils

  • Yolyn Am - an impressive gorge with ice fields, even in summer

Ulaanbaatar: The modern side of Mongolia

After days in the wilderness, we reach the capital Ulaanbaatarwhere modern skyscrapers mingle with Buddhist temples and old markets. This is where our Silkroad Rally officially ends - with a well-deserved last evening full of memories.

Highlights in Ulaanbaatar:

  • Gandan Monastery - the most important Buddhist center in the country

  • Genghis Khan statue - the largest equestrian monument in the world

  • Sukhbaatar Square - the heart of the city with government buildings and museums

  • Cashmere markets - High-quality cashmere at reasonable prices
