The fifth stage of the East-West Friendship and Silk Road Rally: an unforgettable climb to Nemrut Dağı
The 18th edition of the East-West Friendship and Silk Road Rally took the participants to the majestic Nemrut Dağı in the Turkish province of Adıyaman on its fifth stage this year.
The rally, supported by the European Union and the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to discover the cultural treasures along the historic Silk Road and promote friendship between East and West. A total of 28 drivers from five countries, including Italy, Germany, Austria and Moldova, took part in this adventure with 12 vehicles.
After a challenging night-time arrival in Adıyaman, the participants made their way to the summit of the 2,134-metre-high Nemrut Dağı. There they were rewarded with a breathtaking sunrise and were able to admire the famous monumental statues from the Commagene period.
Nadir Serin, Chairman of the Association for East-West Friendship and Peace, expressed his enthusiasm for this stage:
"We thought it would be an easy climb, but it was a challenging route. Our aim is to publicize the beauties of Turkey. We hope that our participants will act as ambassadors for these regions in their home countries."
After the stopover at Nemrut Dağı, the rally teams continued their journey with the next destination Doğubayazıt in the province of Ağrı. From there, they continued on to Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and China before the rally ended in Mongolia on August 28.
This stage of the rally emphasizes the importance of cultural exchange and the discovery of historical sites along the Silk Road, which has served as a bridge between different cultures for centuries.
